Susan Schechter Remembered
On February 3, 2004, Susan Schechter, a well-known and deeply loved domestic violence and child advocate lost a hard-fought battle against endometrial cancer at the age of 57. Susan Schechter was a visionary who challenged those in the domestic violence and child abuse fields to set aside differences, territorial concerns and distrust to collaborate and move ahead on behalf of the victims.
While the news of her death casts a dark and forboding shadow, her memory will bring light to this earth forever. We must remember and honor Susan Schechter by putting aside our differences in order to create the collaborations she always encouraged. We must remember Susan and her spirit as we move ahead in our work as advocartes for change.
